I don’t know about you, but I am always on the look out for something that can make me feel better, look better, improve my health or any information that will point me in the right direction. As I have been on my healing journey for the past several years, I have tried a variety of different items from vitamins to collagens, supplements, organic beauty products or just non toxic items.
I have become very aware of all the toxins in food, beauty products, and in the environment. I have done some readings on it that it has made me down right fearful and quite skeptical of the products around me. I follow gurus, experts and become so overloaded with their information that I can get overwhelmed. There is just too many choices, studies, and opinions.
Some say coffee is good, others bad. Red wine, good, others bad(My personal opinion is moderation). Hopefully not bad or too bad because after all this is The Red Wine Effect blog…hahaha. Chocolate, specifically dark chocolate with at least 70% cocoa(because it has more antioxidants and fewer additives)is good.
What do I eat for my thyroid? I’ve heard no salads, no broccoli. Then I hear moderation with those. What do I eat and drink for weight loss? Do I drink green tea or black tea? And fasting. I’ve heard fasting isn’t good for women with hormone issues. Then I hear fasting is great. And what time period do I fast for 12, 14, 16, 18, 20 hours?
So many questions. And not a lot of clear answers. So you know what? I take the info I’ve been given. Decide if it’s for me. Try for a while. See if it works. Is there any changes in me? Do I see results? Do I feel any different?

These are some of the products that I am currently using. I also use a Magnesium oil spray occasionally for sleep and muscle aches.
For me, I have found good shampoo and conditioner(Kitsch)that is working for my hair; free of some of those toxins. My hair is thin so it feels a little thicker and fuller. Since 2021, I have tried at least 8 different collagen products ranging in price to formula. They can be very expensive Plus the higher the quality, organic, the higher the price. I’ve tried 3 different protein powders. At the moment I am trying Paleovalley Bone Broth protein/collagen(So far I like it. I’ve only been using it since January). Over the recent years, I’ve tried about 4 different probiotics. I am currently trying a probiotic with prebiotics. Only a week in. I am trying not to dye my hair so I bought a spray which claims to help stimulate the dormant melanin in you hair follicles. Over 2 months of consistent use, I see no results. I tried, it’s not working so maybe I will try the other one that I have been seeing on IG but I am getting frustrated at looking at my grays and spraying in the root touch up color after every shampoo.
And I haven’t really touched on weight loss. I am frustrated with my weight gain. I know its hormones and I have that belly now and my thyroid is out of whack but it doesn’t make me feel any better. I have cut out most fast foods. Cut out 80% of my snacky foods. I eat protein every morning instead of skipping breakfast. I have fasted with little results; a couple pounds lost here and there. I used to be a carbaholic and I have cut way back, still nothing. Do I walk and exercise? Not as much as I should. Walking is next on the list since the weather is getting nicer out and I don’t mind the travel to the gym when its not snowing(And yes, I will do some outdoor walking…always wanted to be a hiker). I have recently been going twice a week to the Y for weight training.
However, you would think since I have cut out so many toxic foods that my body would be healing enough to drop some weight. Do I feel better? Yes. I absolutely do. But I have yet to see it on the exterior; yet to see it when I put my pants on. I haven’t worn button pants other than the occasional jeans since Covid! But maybe I am thinking about it wrong. Maybe what I need to do is embrace the good feeling I have with all that I am doing and trying. I’m sure my self sabotaging thoughts of my weight aren’t helping either.
There are so many doctors, advisors, companies vying for our business. Some saying the same things and others very different. Just too many choices! But I say start small. Research but don’t go too crazy where you read so much you don’t take action. Try the product or the program. It might work, might not. If it doesn’t move on. If it does, congrats, keep doing it. I will continue to try and fail then try something new. I am not in it for anti-aging aspect(ok, maybe the gray hair issue) but always looking for longevity and improvement in my health.
