I have always enjoyed watching the award shows since I was a young girl. Except the Tonys….wasn’t in tune with theater…get it?! And I loved seeing the performances and the wardrobes but mostly I enjoyed the hosts. They made the show. Monologues, jokes… keeping me entertained while maintaining flow of the show. Billy Crystal hosted the Oscars for several years…he was the best. His sketches and humor….he is memorable and by far my favorite.
But, oh Ricky Gervais! He really nailed it this past Sunday on The Golden Globes; his final year as host for this show. I find him a funny comedian which I don’t find many of the current comedians that funny (I am funnier 🤪) He wasn’t “ha ha funny”, he was “a laugh at others expense” funny. I LOVE IT! Times now everyone is offended so why not go full board and rip them all to shreds…for the humor aspect of course. But even more so, he put them in their place. The elites that live in their bubbles, live their pampered lives, but tell us how to live, how to vote, what I need to accept and what I need to do to change…. He was on point; they know nothing about real life so be thankful for the award and sit back down (he said” fuck off “which is way more appropriate). And the pushback from critics and Hollywood he is getting only my makes this all the more humorous. Ricky has increased his followers and fanbase by the thousands and is only continually increasing in popularity.
On a side note, what in heavens name possessed some of the “stars” to wear what they did?!! What, the lightbulb broke in their closet (certainly was in their head) or maybe a 3 year old picked it out?! Or maybe they are going on the notion that bad publicity is still publicity! Jennifer Lopez’s Christmas classic crop; oh Beyonce is not so golden in that frock; Michelle Williams stole a curtain from Vivian Leigh. And that Comer girl stealing from baby Yoda… shame on you. There are so many more to mock… take off your sunglasses Al Pacino and Patricia Arquette, I want to see your scolding eyes while you rant on your exceptance speech🤯 Exactly what Ricky told you not to do…he knew it. We all did.
This is why some of the other award shows have done away with hosts. “It’s just jokes and we all die”. Truth in humor, nobody is safe so just let it go and laugh along.
Another side note.. I am beyond happy that The Irishman did not win One single award. Waaayyyy overrated! Why is it supposed to be so great…the names…Scorsese, DeNiro, Pacino, Pesci(he’s the only worthy candidate)… They all sat at that table with their arrogant, overinflated egos. Hope the Oscars follow suit!
