So I try to catch a show or two a year since I moved to Rochester. I’ve always loved theatre: caught the bug back in highschool when we went to see Cabaret at Shea’s in Buffalo; Loved it!! Never knew anyone else who wanted to go, didn’t really ask, Wasband didn’t like and frankly didn’t have the time. Now, living the second act of my life is to indulge in some live performances. This one was such a delightful surprise. My bestie, Michelle asked if I was interested because she heard great things about it. I never heard of it so I had no clue what to expect. But sure, why not. Sometimes those are the best times when you have no expectations. Well, I was blown away!
So it’s 9/11 related. And it’s a true story. About an American Airlines jet flying from Paris that got rerouted to Newfoundland on September 11 because the US airspace was shut down due to the terrorist attacks. They were stranded in a little town in Canada,Gander, for 5 days. It tells of all their fears, struggles, interpersonal relationships…. it was a constant musical with no intermission that went on for almost 2 hours. I couldn’t get enough. It was funny and moving and made you think. Never crossed my mind that travelers that day had quite an ordeal and also had life changing events. I highly recommend seeing this; by far my favorite show so far. Sometimes musicals are a little iffy; I appreciate dialogue cuz it’s easier to follow. But every song kept the story going; no fluff. Liked it so much that I almost went to see it again 😊….if I had the time.
