Being a lover of Red Blends, today I’m trying Red Velvet from Cupcake Vineyards. Examining the bottle I could not find the vintage year. I bought it based on three things: the attractive label, that it is a blend and that it is under $10. Single moms on a budget understand being frugal. The label did not say which grapes were in the blend but it did say blackberries, mocha and red fruits. Words that are agreeable to me. I haven’t read any reviews yet but reading the back label, it’s definitely my style.
Upon opening and pouring, I noticed it is viscous and has a deep burgundy color. Nose wasn’t impressed. Smelled alcohol, rubber and only light hints of cherry.
Weak in body, medium acidic, dry with mild tannins. Not tasting any fruit. And actually leaves a bad after taste. I let it sit for a bit; breathe a little. And just a note, I do drink dry reds room temperature. Still after a half hour, the burning alcohol on my throat and no real pleasant taste, I won’t even finish the glass. Might use it to cook; I don’t like to waste food or alcohol.
I am not at all impressed. Maybe I just got a bad batch. Might give another try….in the distant future.
